BLOGGING BENEFITS: Gossiping Neighbors Reveal Drug Dealers

Jul 22, 2008 in MISC

What happens when a group of Brooklyn bloggers finally meet up and discuss their cyber conversations? In the case of the members of BayRidgeTalk.com, it means that they are teaming up to convince narcotics officers to search the neighborhood. 93rd Street is the main topic of discussion on the community blog, with other topics ranging from sports to recipe suggestions to terrible jokes. However, it is the gossip surrounding the loud and obnoxious residents at numbers 346 and 348 93rd Street that led to the discovery of a neighborhood crackhouse.Pet shop owners, coffee shop owners, and long-time residents of the Bay Ridge area started getting annoyed with the Terrone family back when the boys were 4 years old and wreaking havoc by throwing mud onto nearby clothes lines. Finally, due to the publicity of frustrated bloggers, the middle-aged men and their “co-workers” are being charged with conspiracy, drugs and weapon usage, and selling controlled substances. Satisfied, and still blogging about the outcome of their hard work, BayRidgeTalk.com users have proved that cyber networking is critical in a chaotic modern world where neighborhood crimes are sometimes overlooked…

What Happened to The Great American Brewery

Jul 14, 2008 in MISC

Sunday night, Anheuser-Busch agreed to sell itself to the Belgian brewer InBev for around 52 Billion. You should not be surprised at this because this deal has been long overdue. InBev has been pressing the Anheuser-Busch clan for a couple months and they finally were able to finish the deal. The deal creates the world’s largest brewer at $70 a share. This is exciting news because it teams up beers like Budweiser and Stella Artois but it also makes Anheuser-Busch lose that great feeling when you crack open a frosty cold one and smell America. But then again, beer is beer.

The Dark Knight Goes Viral

Jul 07, 2008 in MISC

….For all of you comic book lovers, the new Batman movie “The Dark Knight” comes out on July 18th. Now for about the past 8 months, there have been viral marketing campaigns all over the internet and even in big cities like Chicago, San Francisco, and New York. I am a huge fan of the Batman franchise and just recently stumbled across this interesting website where there is a countdown that ends tomorrow night around 9pm or 10pm with New York City coordinates that are around Thomas Paine Park. I will be meeting Batman nerds alike there just to find out what is going on. All I Know is that this is one of the crazy viral marketing schemes ever. Check both citizensforbatman.org and whysoserious.com to see what i am talking about. This may be a little much for the average Batman fan but I would suggest checking it out, I think it is very interesting how they are doing these viral campaigns.

Energy Drinks Are Hilarious

Jul 02, 2008 in MISC

Remeber when the rapper Nelly came out with his own energy drink, Pimp Juice, well a new energy drink called “Tropic Thunder Booty Sweat” is being released. It is based on the same drink that is featured in the upcoming Ben Stiller flick, “Tropic Thunder.” The energy drink will be released in August along with the film. Paramount Pictures should be looking to cash in if the film succeeds with the public.

Now, for $13 you can avoid TSA harassment and strict liquid laws at the airport: Spoon Sisters has created a shampoo in paper form. It comes in sheets like Listerine strips and dissolves in water to be used like ordinary shampoo, and you can have more than 3 fluid ounces worth of papers. And just in case you were worried, they also make dissolvable paper laundry soap, bath soap, and shaving cream. 51302.jpeg

Google and The Family Guy

Jun 30, 2008 in MISC

Everyone’s favorite Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane, who recently spoke at PromaxBDA, just completed a deal with Google to produce and distribute a cartoon show strictly for Google. It will run in two-minute episodes and will be working with AdSense in terms of advertising. It should be pretty funny seeing as “Family Guy” is some of the funniest stuff on television. Advertising with this web series which will be called, “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy,” which will come in multiple forms like a commercial before the two minute clip or a banner at the bottom of the video. This will definitely change the market and the way people consume entertainment. Read more about this here.  family_guy_seth_cast.jpg

He Made Swearing Funny!!

Jun 23, 2008 in MISC

Sadly, George Carlin died on Sunday of heart failure. It was a sad day for comedy because from what I recall, this guy made swearing funny. Although he was known for having the dirtiest mouth in stand-up, he made critics happy by being the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine. All I can say is thanks for making my vocabulary a little bit dirtier. Here is some classic George Carlin talking about answering machines.

Skiing Through the Airport

Jun 10, 2008 in MISC

A New System to help traffic people through airports has been placed in most American Airports. This system is used to help flyers move through the airport whether they are non-frequent flyers going on vacation with their families or someone who flies on a weekly basis. The cool thing about this is that the system looks a lot like you’re about to hit the ski slopes. Here is the story at the NY Times.

What’s The Point

Jun 10, 2008 in MISC

I was reading on Huffington Post this morning and saw something horrible. If MTV really thinks they involve themselves with the music world then they are horribly mistaken. This morning I read that Brody Jenner, a reality star on the fake show “The Hills,” is getting his own reality television show where Hollywood seeking losers try to become his best friend. The show is respectively called “Bromance.” Lets hope MTV can market towards music lovers like they used to. But until then we will have to settle for scripted reality. Thanks MTV.
