Many Unprepared For DTV Switch, Must Not Be The Average American

On June 12, the final transition from analog to digital television will be made nation wide. In order to enable the switch, the government has asked all analog television owners to purchase converter boxes at the reasonable price of 80$. Coupons have even been made available to cut the price by half. However, there is still a percentage of Americans (2.8%) unprepared for the switch taking place tomorrow. Should we be concerned for them? With the average American watching just under 4 hours of television per day, we need not worry, the stragglers will come around soon enough.

This is a horrifically ignorant article. The majority of people who are unprepared for the DTV switch are elderly (and most likely not technologically literate), indigent, or do not have a permanent mailing address. To simply assume they will “catch up” is an extremely narrow minded view. Just because you watch television on a flat screen and have a DVR doesn’t mean the rest of America operates on your level of technology. Try getting outside of yourself and possibly reading a newspaper before you write such callous and obtuse articles. I am ashamed to have you using my Alma Mater as your websites url.

i’ve heard there are a few detriments to digital TV, such as when the signal is weakened by physical obstructions, but overall it’s still a vast improvement
