Oddly enough, just hours before the murder, Ramsden decided to upload the picture on the left and update his Facebook status, saying: “I’m twisted at home. My head’s up my —–. I feel like killin some1 need to stay off the hard stuff ha —– it it’s Saturday ha.”
Sentenced to at least 17 years for the crime, Facebook’s role in the case is interesting…can we use the revolutionary social networking tool to help prevent crime, like in the film, Minority Report?
Apparently, Virgin Atlantic has a history of questionable advertisements that have landed them in a bit of trouble over the years. In response, an anonymous print was submitted to the popular ad blog, AdRants, with the tag line “Fly Virgin America” placed in the corner of a picture of the downed US Airways Airbus A320 which crashed into the Hudson River the other week.
Though the origins of the print remain unknown, AdRants decided to post it and is now being sued by the airline for: “complaint for trademark infringement, false designation of origin and false and deceptive advertising, trademark dilution, false and misleading statements, dilution in violation of California law, and defamation.”
Anyone who’s driven through Ohio can’t help but recognize the gigantic Mail Pouch Tobacco advertisements plastered on various barns and buildings.
Based in Wheeling, West Virginia, Mail Pouch Tobacco began its barn campaign way back in 1890, reaching its peak in 1960 with an estimated 20,000 barns spread across 22 states. Dang.
Paid between $1 and $2 a year for the use of their barn, farmers were also compensated with a fresh coat of paint…nice incentive for a much-needed service.
As a proud native of Pittsburgh and a glorified Steelers fan, I felt it was necessary to give everyone out there a preview of what is to come in terms of the infamous commercials that air during the big game. Not everyone can remember the famous Coca-Cola commercial with Mean Joe Green from 1979, but this year Coca-Cola is planning to remake the commercial with Steelers safety, Troy Polamalu. This got me very excited because I cannot wait to see some hilarious commercials during the Super Bowl. Here is the original version as well as a link to some behind-the-scenes of the new version that will air on Sunday.
PETA’s newest ad, entitled “Veggie Love” was recently rejected by NBC for its excessive level of sexuality. Hoping to run the ad during the Super Bowl, PETA seems a bit disappointed.
Unbeknownst to this blogger, it seems that PETA has a history of saucy commercials that, for one reason or another, have been banned by television networks. Who knew?
It seems as though the branding sh*t show known to us as Barack Obamania has come to a hideous, albeit predictable, conclusion. Yup. The folks @ Clemenger BBDO | Australia present the “Yes, We Can” Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep sale.
Though there had to be a proverbial “straw” to break the camel’s back, I suppose it makes sense for our auto industry to embrace rabid bandwagoneering considering President Obama’s efforts to keep them afloat.
Is the commercial cheesy? Yes. Does it make sense? Kind of. Are you supporting terrorism if you don’t buy a Dodge Nitro with 20″ rims for under $35,000? Probably.
While ad revenues for virtually all companies plummet, the availability of Prime Time commercial slots have increased significantly.
As an essential source of income for virtually every form of media, executives at television networks like ABC, NBC and CBS are now forced to accept infomercials as quick alternatives to fill the vacancies. “But wait, there’s more!”
Running for a fraction of the cost of “normal” commercials, it looks like the major networks will have to starve for a while as the traditionally reliable clients like sports and pharmaceutical companies figure sh*t out.
What would you do if 400 people randomly started dancing in the middle of a London train station? Watch what 10 hidden cameras revealed and inevitably turned into a fantastic TMobile commercial about always staying connected:
Hard times have officially hit the advertising industry.
In exchange for taking over the lease on his 2007 Porsche 997, ad guru Johnathan Rodgers is offering his award-winning consulting services free of charge for one year.
According to his Craigslist post, Mr. Rodgers is pretty talented…having worked with clients such as Pepsi, FedEx and McDonald’s, who’s going to be the lucky company to pick up an experienced ad man and a sweet company car?
On January 21, 2009 I was fortunate enough to stand on the Mall outside the Capitol Building and experience firsthand the swearing in of President Barack Obama in Washington, DC. Here is a collage documenting the trip through my eyes:
The newest addition to the YouTube community comes all the way from Vatican City. Yup. Pope Benedict XVI now has his own YouTube channel.
But, while his decision to join the likes of Barack Obama, Queen Elizabeth II and other dignitaries online validates the importance (and perhaps the necessity of the Internet), Pope Benedict warned of the risks of “obsessive” online networking, which “could isolate people from real social interaction and broaden the digital divide by further marginalizing people.”

On Thursday’s edition of “Hardball,” host Chris Matthews dissed blogs. As NY Daily News reporter Liz Benjamin cited blogs regarding a recent scandal with Caroline Kennedy and her suspicious withdrawal from consideration for the New York Senate seat, Matthews told her to “stick to journalism.”
For the record, Slayterbox1748 would like to thank Liz Benjamin for citing blogs, thus validating our purpose. Click the pic. for the Huffington Post article.
So today was one of the biggest days in American history. President Obama became the first African American to hold office in the White House. The inauguration was incredible and it was great to see that our country has come together so much in the last few months since the election. I posted a video last November where it had celebrities telling people to not vote unless they actually cared about the country. Well I have seen a ton of celebrity videos popping up on Youtube and other places online that are all revolve around politics, from the goofy SNL political videos to the music videos in support of Obama. Well today I found a video asking Americans to send in their congrats to Obama. It was sponsored by Pepsi and it looks pretty cool. Here is the video:
Burger King is running a new campaign with the USA’s two best friends, Facebook and hamburgers. Upon installing the new application online, users are prompted to remove 10 of their friends in exchange for a free Whopper. Designed by ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky, nearly 60 000 people have been “de-friended” and received notifications that their “friends” prefer an old-fashioned American burger, free of charge, over them.
While starfish were legally recognized as being “sea stars” rather than “fish,” fish are now being called “sea kittens.” PETA started this campaign in order to dissuade people from eating fish. As we all know, creating a brand name for an object is what generally constitutes its success and so PETA has simply adopted this tactic in an attempt to rebrand the sea-dwelling creatures with a nickname that appeals to the masses.
The Twitter accounts of Bill O’Reilly, Britney Spears, Barack Obama and and CNN’s Rich Sanchez were hacked Monday. The counterfeit tweets are pretty funny. Click here for the full story.
Apparently, Samuel J. Wurzelbacher a.k.a. “Joe the Plumber” from McCain campaign fame, will be going to Israel to cover the war.
Reporting for the conservative website PJTV.com, “Joe” (pictured opposite President-elect Barack Obama) will leave his home in Toledo, OH for the war-torn West Bank to let Israel’s “average Joe’s share their story.”
